What is a 'Small Group'?

A Small Group is about building a community to reach a community; bringing together a group of people (6-12 in number) who will meet to­gether on a regular basis. This can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. In connecting people in this way there is a sense of belonging, a safe place in which to be open with one another, a place in which we can be cared for pastorally and be encouraged. Usually groups meet in each other's homes - some during the day-time, others in the evening.
The group, as part of its community life will:

1) aim to worship and pray together.
2) enable Christian fellowship and mutual support to happen.
3) learn and grow together as disciples of Jesus Christ. (Making disciples has al­ways been a group event; growth happens best in a small group).
4) express its life in terms of mission i.e. the small group is the main focus of evangelism and mission (see Matthew 28 : 16-20).

The Group Leader:

Each has a designated leader who seeks to guard and guide the life of the group. They guide a group towards spiritual growth and maturity, mutual care and service. Together everyone's gifts and ministries are identified, recognised and used.

God is always on the move - always doing a new thing. Small groups are about growth and life changes; character development; Christ being formed in us. They are about self-giving in terms of our love, our time, our energy and our resources.

God is Central:

God is calling all of us to be disciples. A call is much stronger than an invitation - it involves surrendering all to him. All Christians are engaged in a journey of faith and, together with other Christians, it is exciting!

Each group will travel on its own journey - we don't seek to standardize! Each group must seek what God wants to accomplish through them.
