Pray in the church or wherever you are at 9am
Week 0: Luke 14:1, 7-14
Aug 30th He was being carefully watched
As followers of Jesus we also are watched, for anything that would bring our Lord’s name into disrepute. Ask Jesus to come alongside you and help you in your walk with him. Pray for CPAS and their mission.
Aug 31st the guests picked the places of honour
The place of honour for us as followers of Jesus is in serving others. Pray for all the clergy and ministers in Woodbridge and Melton. Pray for Churches Together in our town.
1st everyone who exalts himself will be humbled
We need to ask God for a spirit of true humility, not a cringing sort of humility, but of deliberately putting ourselves at the service of others. Pray for our MP and for our District Councillors.
2nd he who humbles himself will be exalted
Our exaltation will come when we hear Jesus welcome us with the words “well done, my good servant”, having done our best to serve him and others by using our gifts and talents. Re-affirm your offering of yourself, your gifts and talents to him.
3rd When you give a banquet invite the [outcasts].
Do we reach out to the poor, the lonely, those on the fringe of society? Ask God to show you who needs your help. Pray for the Town Pastors as they set out and for their prayer supporters. Pray for the police.
Week 1 Galatians 3:1 - 14
6th Are you now trying to attain your goal?
Over the next two weeks the people of St Johns and St Andrews are asked to pray about the strategy for the next five years. Ask for a clear sight of the goal which our Lord is pointing us towards. Pray for the House Group leaders, meeting this evening.
7th Are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?.
In the strategic planning it is vital that we follow God’s plan and direction. Pray that we can clearly hear him, setting aside our own priorities while we do so. Pray for the members of the Strategy Team.
8th Does God give you his Spirit…
Although it is good to have some sort of structure pray that we do not allow the way we currently do things to constrain what God is wanting to do in our churches. Pray for TEAR Fund and for the people of Pakistan struggling with the after effects of the flooding.
9th …because you believe what you heard
Pray that the Bible will continue to be our foundation as we seek the way ahead. Pray that many will come to the Prayers for the Strategy this evening at St Johns and for openness to God.
10th Consider Abraham
Abraham set out to the promised land – not knowing the detail of where he was going – journeying by faith. Pray for the right balance between absolute faith and having each step marked out in our strategic planning. Pray for the Street Pastors as they go out this evening.
Week 2: Acts 2:14 - 21
13th All of you who live in Jerusalem, listen
As the people of God we can sometimes become blasé and unaware of where God wants us to go. Pray for the strategic planning. Pray for CMS and the Robinson family and Thailand.
14th It’s only nine in the morning
Look at what happened at nine on that morning – what will happen today from 9 o’clock this morning? Continue to pray for the way ahead. Pray for all who belong to the churches and chapels in Woodbridge and Melton Churches Together. Pray for FORM.
15th On my servants…they will prophesy
Ask the Lord for prophetic words to guide us in our planning for the future. Pray for the second “Prayers for the Strategy” taking place in St Johns this evening and for sharing of what God shows us.
16th Your sons and daughters…young men...
As part of our consideration of the way ahead pray for the children and young people and their coming to know the Lord - and be prepared to listen to their insights and views. Pray for the members of the Strategy Group and for the PCC when they discuss the outcome of these two weeks of concentrated prayer.
17th Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
They can only call on the name of the Lord if they have heard it. Pray for the “where and how” of outreach to be part of our strategic thinking. Pray for the young people and leaders of the Revival Congregation and their weekend away. Pray for the Street Pastors, going out this evening and for the police.
Week 3: 1 Timothy 2: 1 - 7
20th Prayers…for …all those in authority
Pray for our Queen and government, for our MP and local councillors, for officials in the county, district and town councils. Pray for the Prayer Ministry Team, meeting this evening. Pray for SAMS and for the Browne family in Argentina.
21st Prayers…for …all those in authority
Pray for our Bishops Nigel and Clive, for senior churchmen and administrators in our diocese. Pray for Archdeacon Judy and Rural Dean Pauline.
22nd Prayers…for …all those in authority
Acknowledge Jesus as the head of St Johns, Woodbridge. We are his people, seeking to do his will as a body and as individuals. Pray for each of the congregations which make up this people of God. Pray for Dave and Tricia.
23rd that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Give thanks that we can live our faith without persecution in this country. Pray that we do not misuse this privilege, denied to so many in the world, by becoming complacent, allowing the secular and other voices to erode the Christian heritage this country has been built upon.
24th For there is one God and one mediator…Christ Jesus
Pray for those who do not yet know the love of God, shown in our Saviour. Pray that they will share with us in the promises of God. Pray for the Street Pastors as they go out this evening. Pray for those who they meet and talk with. Pray for “Back to Church Sunday” and those who respond to the invitation.
Week 4: John 1: 35 - 43
27th Look the Lamb of God
Jesus is often depicted as a lamb, being led to slaughter. Give thanks that through his sacrifice, although we are full of sin and selfishness, we can have a relationship with our holy God. Pray for Just42 and the work with young people in the area.
28th Jesus asked “What do you want”
Our gentle saviour does not force himself on us, but wants us to come to him, voluntarily. Pray for all who preach God’s word in St Johns and Bredfield.
29th Rabbi, where are you staying?
Pray for those who are seeking to know more about Jesus. Pray for ourselves – that we will continue to be near to him, aware of what and who God is concerned about. Pray for your neighbourhood.
30th The first thing Andrew did…
Are you so enthused by what you know of Jesus that you want to tell others? Ask God to give you the words to say to show them the way to him. Pray for the team which goes into Hollesley prison each month.
1st Oct And he brought him to Jesus
Give thanks for those who brought you to faith in Jesus. Is God showing you someone who you can lead to him? Pray for our house groups and their leaders as they explore what it means to follow Jesus today. Pray for the Street Pastors as they go out and for those who they come alongside.
