Worship through Art - by Lizzy Plummer

Hello,

After engaging with art at the 24/7 prayer weekend, I felt the call to set up an art group, where art could be used as an expression of worship.

“Art is really expressions in various languages of observations, questions, complaints, admiration, challenges, and encouragements made by human beings as part of a great conversation with the cosmos, or God and other people.” (www.theologynetwork.org)

Our involvement with art shouldn’t be passive, it isn’t a spectator sport: it’s something that everyone can be involved in. My passion and aim this term is to see art integrated into St John’s as another form of worship. I want to give people the opportunity to express their love for God through art, as an alternative to dance and music. This has all stemmed from my own love for art and God and desire to combine the two. I plan to organise an afternoon (dates to be confirmed) where this can be possible- to invite people to share in my vision and have a go themselves. Everyone is welcome- whether a professional artist or a beginner, God gives us each gifts for us to use.

Mission Week - by Lizzy Plummer

Last week was mission week at St John's. 6 Ugandan's also came over to get involved with the work we would be doing. I was involved with the prayer visiting, where we went out in twos and knocked on people's doors and offered to pray for them. We had a mixture of responses, however we did get to pray with two people which was really good, and i was amazed how open people were about what was going on in their lives. We also got involved in the Besem project that Jon and Ivan were a part of, we helped to paint some comunity centres in ipswich, which was fun and ment i walked round Ipswich looking like a chav in my trackies but it was all worth it. As a result of that Jon and Ivan were able to get future projects to help with, which was good. On the friday I was also lucky to go out street pastoring, with a team of about 20 others. We walked around Woodbridge praying for the people that were out and for the people in their houses. I enjoyed this, but it got very cold!

I learnt a lot from this week, as I was pretty scared at the thought of offering to pray with people but God gave me the confidence and the words to say. I also learnt to trust in him and not go out in my own strength. First blog complete :]
